Sea Life Centre Berlin was a former location of the Sea Life chain, a globally recognized group of commercial aquariums. The Sea Life brand, owned by the British company Merlin Entertainments, is dedicated to presenting a wide variety of marine life to the public. History of the Sea Life Chain

The origins of the Sea Life chain trace back to the opening of the Sea Life Centre in Oban, Scotland, in 1979. This initial aquarium predated the full consolidation and rebranding under the Sea Life name. By 1992, nine additional Sea Life units had been established, marking the beginning of its expansion. The chain is a significant part of Merlin Entertainments' portfolio, which includes a variety of entertainment and attraction brands.

At its peak, the Sea Life chain boasted numerous locations across North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. As of April 2017, there were 53 Sea Life attractions operating globally, encompassing standalone centres, integrated features within resort theme parks, and themed rides. Despite their widespread presence, Sea Life centres have faced criticism concerning animal welfare. Organizations such as the Marine Conservation Society have highlighted mortality rates, and charities like Freedom for Animals have questioned the accuracy of their conservation claims and the ethical implications of keeping certain species, such as beluga whales, in their facilities.
