To ensure the financial viability of the zoo, the state government later allocated an additional 26 hectares of non-forest land for commercial purposes. The park was officially inaugurated on January 26, 2021, by Uddhav Thackeray, the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Following its inauguration, the project was renamed from Gorewada Zoo to its current designation, Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada International Zoological Park.
